One of the first flavors ever created by LifeSavers, wintergreen mints used to cost five cents per roll in 1913. Before anyone really knew of his new product, Edward Nobel --owner of the company and a clever marketer to boot -- persuaded the owners of nearby grocery stores to install Life Savers displays next to their cash registers. He then encouraged them to make sure their customerís change always included a nickel, as this would increase sales of the new mint confections. His ingenious tactics worked like a charm, and now over a century later, these mint treats are still a sweetly refreshing favorite across the country!
