The custom of decorating with Christmas lights originated in 18th century Germany, when upper-class households used candles to bedeck their indoor Christmas trees. These candles would be attached directly to the branches with melted wax or fastened on by pins.

Maybe it’s just us, but doesn’t the idea of an open flame decorating trees sound a bit… dangerous? Either way, we’re thankful to live in modern society, where electricity has replaced the traditional candle with a string of multicolored fairy lights. Not only are these safer, but they have also inspired the invention of deliciously festive Christmas light lollipops!

We would never recommend sucking on a lit candle (or a Christmas bulb for that matter), but you can indulge in these sweet holiday treats all season long.
