Planters is a snack food company that was founded on the American dream, by an Italian immigrant with an idea to give customers a high-quality product for an affordable price. A self-proclaimed “peanut specialist,” Amedeo Obici began this company in partnership with Mario Peruzzi, with only six employees, two large roasters, and makeshift machinery. Using an innovative method of blanching whole roasted peanuts, the crew got to work, blanching and roasting their way to success. It wasn’t long before the small business became incorporated as Planters Nut and Chocolate Company, and in 1913, the firm moved to the “peanut capital of the world” in Suffolk, Virginia and built their first mass-production plant. After a few mergers here and there, Planters peanuts found its home with the Kraft Heinz Company.
