History of Dove Chocolate

The Dove chocolate bar was born in 1939, not as square-shaped solid chocolate, but as an ice cream treat! It was conceived by Chicago candy and ice cream shop owner, Leo Stefanos, as an innovative solution to a potentially dangerous problem. As a business owner and father, he noticed that children in the neighborhood, including his own, would run down the street chasing after ice cream trucks, inadvertently putting themselves in harm’s way in the process. Determined to create a confection that was better than anything made at the time, so kids wouldn’t have to risk life and limb for a treat, Stefanos developed a new chocolate-coated ice cream dessert of delight! In 1960, a solid chocolate version was released in the UK under the name, galaxy bar, and soon after, this American confection was acquired by the Mars candy company.

Dove Chocolate Fun Facts

A favorite among many, Dove chocolate promises are little chocolate bars of pure bliss with an inspirational quote inside each wrapper. Some of these heartfelt notes are inspiring, such as “Because you can” and “Dare to dream,” and some offer advice like “Solve arguments with a dance-off” and “Buy both!” Although most of these quotes are inspirational and a little bit humorous, some might need to be taken with a grain of salt. For instance, even though “Sleep late tomorrow” sounds good, it might not be the best course of action when there’s an important meeting scheduled at 8 am! More importantly, a certain level of discernment might be necessary when interpreting a message like, “Be mischievous. It feels good,” when you’re about to go into a meeting with your boss!
