It is made by the Mars owned Wrigley Company in Chicago, Illinois, which is also known as the largest manufacturer of chewing gum in the world! This classic minty sensation acquired its name from the double distillation process used to create it, a method and recipe that continues to be a trade secret. Initial advertisements featured illustrations of identical twins, and in 1959, this rendition was replaced with hired actresses. The original doublemint twins were twenty-something siblings named Jayne and Joan Boyd (Knoerzer), who were followed by several identical spokespersons throughout the years. The longest-running pair was Linda and Lisa Yokubinas, who began their 10-year stint in 1985, and the latest representatives, who debuted in 2005, were Natalie and Nicole Garza. This most recent campaign capitalizes on the retro feel and flavor of this double-delicious gum, with the siblings dressed in vintage clothing!

Until recently, these brands were all the same color, which parallels the sibling comparison relayed by the doublemint gum commercial. Some of the most famous twins featured in the series of advertisements include the sisters of “Married With Children” actress Katey Sagal, Tia and Tamera Mowry who later starred in their own TV series, “Sister, Sister,” and Brittany and Cynthia Daniel, who went on to play roles in the series, “Sweet Valley High.” There was also a bit of scandal surrounding the twins, Patricia and Priscilla Barnstable, who, after gaining fame as chewing gum models, went on to pose for Playboy Magazine!
