In 1856, spruce resin was the only base available, so when the former president of Mexico moved north, bringing with him chicle, it piqued the interest of businessman Thomas Adams, and soon, a burgeoning confectionery was born. After patenting his new chewable treat in 1871, Adams set forth on producing his product for the masses. These unique clove-flavored sticks are the longest-running brand on the market and are currently made by Gerrit J Verburg, who also produces two other nostalgic products known as Beemans and Blackjack gum.
