In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in June of 1776, three members of a secret committee from the Continental Congress visited an upholstery business owned by a masterful seamstress known as Betsy Ross. George Washington, General of the Continental Army and Navy at the time, showed Betsy a rough design of a flag they wanted fashioned that included stars and stripes. A whiz with scissors, Betsy quickly demonstrated how to cut a five-pointed start in a single snip! She was hired and America got its first flag.
A city of many historically important national firsts, Philadelphia is also home to the country's favorite bubblegum: Dubble Bubble. Pink, sugary and infinitely chewy, you can blow bubbles until your heart's content with this national treasure. This year, show your support for America by engaging in the national pastime of gum-chomping with stars and stripes-wrapped bubblegum in bold red, white, and blue colors. Put these show-stoppers center stage in a bowl at your Independence Day gatherings, Labor Day barbecues, and political convention rallies. Make Betsy Ross proud and let your patriotic sweet tooth flag fly high.
