Frederick William Rueckheim was a German immigrant, modestly making a living selling popcorn on the streets of Chicago in the 19th century. In 1896, with the help of his brother, the two stumbled upon a secret recipe for molasses-flavored, candy-coated popcorn and peanuts, and they soon developed a clever means of producing the popcorn without the kernels getting stuck together.
Without a name for the creation, the brothers took their samples to the streets, where an enthusiastic passerby was said to have remarked, "Well, that’s a crackerjack!" -- a colloquialism meaning "something of excellent quality" -- and the name stuck.
Over a century later, the delicious candied popcorn and peanut treat is still going strong. A classic snack at baseball games across America, each bag comes complete with a neat little prize at the bottom! Now you can get your Cracker Jack on while you "root, root, root for the home team" from the comfort of your own couch.
