Legend has it that the Easter egg hunt originated not as an Easter tradition at all, but rather as a pre-Lent celebration. Historically, eggs were a banned commodity throughout the month and a half duration of Lent, so it made sense to try to use up all the household eggs before they could go bad. To do so, many families made a game out of it, hiding the white ovals and allowing the kids to embark on a scavenger hunt. Winners got to eat their yolk-filled treasure!

Well, we like the fact that the egg hunt has been moved to Easter. And we like even more that we can now use this tradition to enjoy more candy!
