WOW! According to the National Confectioner's Association, Americans chew about half a billion pounds of gum each year! That's a lot of bubble blowing. Did you know that bubble gum was invented in 1928 by Walter Diemer? It’s true. While trying out different gum recipes he invented a gum that was less sticky and more stretchable than standard chewing gum. With these new properties he was able to blow bubbles with the gum and hence the name bubble gum. The only food color available at the time was pink and so Diemer used it in his bubble gum creation.
